IT Certifications

So many certifications, so little time …

But, after the SVP, Program Management of a global Telco swore to me the she would “never hire another PMP” again, I began to wonder. What certifications are even worth the trouble?

Personally, I could probably qualify for several of the above certifications, but yet I’ve never done so. I like the idea in principle; i.e., a straight-forward way to differentiate yourself as someone invested in a particular talent and with proof! Unfortunately, my own experience has shown a negative correlation between top contributors and those with certifications.

My theory: true talent trumps external validation (or the need to pursue it). What do you think?
